This past week I have been attending a social issues poster workshop hosted by Craig Feinberg. What a great experience it was. Just being around Craig and hearing his stories and his ideas was inspiring. The image I created deals with the issue of the book (intellect) becoming less and less prominent in American culture. It seems that the more reliable we are on things like technology, we seem to forget the importance of the book, and learning. With the direction American society is going, it seems that soon the only way people will be seen with a book is if it is a portable zip drive.

its such a shame that it has taken me soo long to realize how amazing reading is. I feel like I have wasted my time in college by thinking that reading was boring and now I want to re-do everything I have ever made because of what I have learned by reading. This is my absolute favorite thing to do now.

This typeface is based on an isometric grid and is only a lowercase set. At the AIGA Memphis Conference Portfolio Review, Doyald Young, a famous typographer looked at it. I dont think he was impressed, and Im still not impressed either. I have a lot of issues to still work out, but for now, I’ll just keep the idea of it in my mind.

This is another version of the social issues awareness poster workshop poster. The idea was to create issues in the poster using only rules and typography.  I used this idea to give the poster its own issue of conflict.

Here is a logo I created for a class this past semester that was suppose to work with Bruce Mau and his design team on the Denver Biennial. I’m not sure exactly what the circumstances of the the situation was, but Bruce Mau’s team pulled out of the project and we werent able to work with them. Anyway, the class still contributed to Denver’ biennial, only in different ways. From installations, to teaching kids, it was a great experience no matter what.

The name codec was thought of by Brent Smith with the idea of coding and decoding ideas. With that, I created a logo the can decode and code ideas having to do with the original seven themes of the Denver Biennial 2010.

I had teamed up with a screenwriter and here and had to create something that would represent his screenplay called “Suicide”. The play has to do with rediculous people and the term “suicide” comes from a fountain drink and not actual suicide. I created a line of over the counter pills to exaggerate the stupidity in the story. I also used these pills to play a parody on pills in general, by the way people overuse them thinking that they will fix anything.

This is a cover 5.5 x 8.5 in cover I created for an essay on the deconstruction of graphic design I wrote. I am trying to write as much as possible these days and have soo much I want to say. The idea was to push the idea of breaking from the grid, and hopefully make you actually engage in thinking about what is happening with the forms.

This is a book cover series for the book Six Memos For the Next Millenium by Italo Calvino. The idea was to create the most simple imagery possible for the sections of the book. The book focus on philosophy, but for the covers, I decided to use the literal meanings of the titles. The top row are the chapters, and the bottom row are their opposites.

The books represent visibility, quickness, exactitude, visibility and multiplicity.

The Future Leaders of Design is hosting a poster workshop this winter with Craig Holden Feinberg. This should be really fun.

I created this poster to be as simple and un bias as possible. Since its poster exhibition, the idea of making a poster that is only simple typography doesnt give people into ideas. And grey is used to represent the grey areas that social issues have, another part of the un bias position.

This is what I want to say to everyone.
